In a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is stated that a local lawyer investigating the accident involving İsmail Kıvrak, a truck driver who died in a traffic accident in Iran on June 28, 2023 (as part of the compensation payment to the deceased"s relatives) stated that "Among the insurance services offered by Iranian customs, there is a personal accident insurance option for drivers. However, insurance agencies do not inform drivers about this insurance unless requested, as they are financially liable in the event of a possible accident. In this context, the percentage of foreign truck drivers who have this insurance does not exceed 5%." According to information published on the official website of the Central Insurance Agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, all foreign vehicles entering Iran, regardless of whether they are passenger cars or heavy vehicles, are required to have compulsory traffic insurance. Personal accident insurance is not mandatory but optional. The aforementioned article continued by stating that it would be beneficial to inform and encourage our truck drivers traveling the Iran route about personal accident insurance in order to prevent potential grievances.
